All Aboard the Infinity Train
Sunday May 09, 2021
Sunday May 09, 2021
We watched the first season of Infinity Train, an animated TV series created by Owen Dennis (who also voices Sad-One), currently available on HBO Max. This show has enough complexity to be interesting to adults as well as teens, but was likely cancelled because it didn’t have enough younger viewers. We enjoyed and highly recommend this gem of a show.

Fat and Fire

Sunday Apr 18, 2021
We watched the first two episodes of Doctor Who series 4 (2008), “Partners in Crime” and “The Fires of Pompeii” with Donna Noble and the 10th Doctor. Donna waves at fat, learns about fixed points, and generally shows her fabulousness in these two episodes, and the Doctor learns that even when he can’t save everyone, he needs to save someone.

We recap the remaining five episodes of WandaVision and react to the series as a whole. It ended pretty much the way we expected, and we’re looking forward to much more new Marvel content in the future!

Wanda’s Disney Vision
Sunday Jan 31, 2021
Sunday Jan 31, 2021
We watched the first four episodes of Disney+’s WandaVision on Saturday, January 30, 2021. This is a fun new MCU series that kicks off “phase 4” (whatever that is) with a pseudo-sitcom style that hides its darker layers. The series is currently “airing” weekly on Fridays, to be followed by who knows how many more new series and movies.

Leftovers of the Daleks

Saturday Jan 02, 2021
We watched the Doctor Who New Year’s Day special “Revolution of the Daleks” on January 2, 2021. We got two Jacks and too many Daleks in this romp of an episode that had nothing at all to do with New Year’s Day. It did whet our appetite for the next series though, whenever it comes out.

Judoon Chameleon Watch Jack Ruth

Wow, an extra long episode! We’re back talking about Doctor Who once again, this time covering five episodes at once: series 12’s “Fugitive of the Judoon” plus four episodes from series 3, “Human Nature,” “Family of Blood,” “Blink,” and “Utopia.” Grams wanted those elements in Fugitive of the Judoon that appeared in series 3 to be fresh in Riley’s mind before he watched the series 12 episode. (Plus we watched Blink just for the fun of it.) We neglected to give a spoiler alert (we tend to forget when it’s not a freshly aired episode), but we digress a lot about The Umbrella Academy (sorry we forgot your name, Lila!), the upcoming New Year’s Day special, and our discord (JOIN OUR DISCORD!).

We watched the 2019 Jordan Peele horror film Us on Halloween night, 2020. We first briefly discussed the Twilight Zone episode “Mirror Image” that inspired the premise of the movie; then we launched into a longer discussion that wandered far enough afield to include mentions of Steven King’s books vs adaptations.

Hungry for Humans

Sunday Oct 11, 2020
We watched the season 3 episode of The Twilight Zone, “To Serve Man,” on Sunday, October 11. We forgot to give a spoiler alert for this 58-year-old episode, but it’s available on Hulu. This wasn’t creepy or scary enough for Spooky Sunday, but it did provide some food for thought. (See what I did there?) We also talk about our upcoming Halloween plans, or lack thereof.
Here’s the quote from the beginning of the episode that Grams was trying to remember:
“This is the way nightmares begin, or perhaps, end. Very simple, direct, unadorned. Incredible, and yet so terribly real that even while they’re happening, we live with them and digest them and assimilate them.”

The Scary Sense
Sunday Sep 13, 2020
Sunday Sep 13, 2020
We watched the 1999 movie “The Sixth Sense” for Spooky Sunday. This supernatural psychological thriller has some genuinely scary moments, outstanding performances by Haley Joel Osment (Cole), Toni Collette (Cole’s mom Lynn), and Bruce Willis (Malcolm), superlative directing by M. Night Shyamalan, and perhaps the most memorable twist of all time. If you haven’t watched this one in a while, pull out your VHS tape, dust off your VCR, and pop it in for an entertaining afternoon. Don’t forget to rewind!

Swabbing the Lower Decks
Saturday Sep 12, 2020
Saturday Sep 12, 2020
We watched the first six episodes of the new animated series on CBS All Access, Star Trek: Lower Decks. It’s aimed more towards adults than children, but if you can get on its wavelength, it’s very funny, entertaining, and definitely Star Trek! We also take brief space walks to compare it to Adventure Time, SpongeBob, and Steven Universe.
