Saturday Jan 18, 2020
We watched the first two episodes of Series 12 Doctor Who, “Spyfall, Part 1” and “Spyfall, Part 2” on January 18, 2020. Riley needs to learn about Ada Lovelace and Noor Inayat Khan and someday watch at least one James Bond movie. We enjoyed the big reveal, the cool gadgets, and the classic doctor-saves-the-day story.

We watched the 1988 Christmas movie “Scrooged” (a “modern day” retelling of A Christmas Carol) on Saturday, December 21. Eddie Murphy Bill Murray is always funny, and the movie has a fabulous cast of well-known (but not to Riley) actors. Riley still has not read a single Dickens story, so we need to get on that!
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and hope you are enjoying a holiday break!

We watched the first season of AMC’s The Walking Dead (2010) and really enjoyed it. The first season is a real work of art. If you haven’t already, go watch it!

The Christmas Bride

Saturday Dec 07, 2019
We watched the 2006 Doctor Who Christmas special “The Runaway Bride” on Sunday, November 24. This wasn’t the most flattering introduction to Donna Noble, but we enjoyed parts of it. It makes for a good transition between series 2 and series 3.

Love, Fear, and Doom
Sunday Nov 24, 2019
Sunday Nov 24, 2019
We slammed through the last four episodes of Doctor Who, series 2 (2006): “Love & Monsters,” “Fear Her,” “Army of Ghosts,” and “Doomsday” on Saturday, November 23 2019. Elton learns about love, and public schools are weird about the Kookaburra song lyrics. Rose is forcibly separated from the Doctor, and they both cry. We’re sad to say goodbye to Rose as a companion, even though we’ll see her again.

The Idiot's Guide to Series 2
Saturday Nov 23, 2019
Saturday Nov 23, 2019
We watched three episodes of Doctor Who, series 2 (2006): “The Idiot’s Lantern,” “The Impossible Planet,” and “The Satan Pit,” plus the series 12 trailer that just came out today, Doctor Who day, November 23, 2019. These were not the best but also not the worst episodes. The Queen really did have the first fully televised coronation, and Satan is a tired old trope. The Ood are not really evil! Series 12 looks to be pretty exciting, though we’re sad about no Christmas special. On to watching more and more Doctor Who!

Cyberpeople
Saturday Nov 09, 2019
Saturday Nov 09, 2019
We watched the two-part Cyberman story from Doctor Who series 2 (2006), “Rise of the Cybermen” and “Age of Steel” on Saturday, November 9. Rose gets to see her not-Dad Pete again, but not stay with him, again. Not-Mum Jackie is far less sympathetic, even with an adorable terrier. Mickey leaves the TARDIS already after only two adventures, but he’s ready to be more like Ricky instead of an idiot. The Doctor is… the Doctor.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Saturday Oct 12, 2019
We watched the movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” on Saturday, October 12, 2019. The movie won four Oscars last year and was nominated for Best Picture.
Shoutout to Riley’s dad for introducing him to Queen. Grams was listening to “Another One Bites the Dust” from the album The Game every day at school in 1980. We both enjoyed the “Wayne’s World” rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Never Throw A Girl Into the Fireplace
Saturday Sep 28, 2019
Saturday Sep 28, 2019
We watched the fourth episode of Doctor Who series 2 (2006), “The Girl In the Fireplace” on September 28, 2019. This was the third episode of the new Who era written by Steven Moffat, whose writing we love. This episode has a beautiful story that tugs at the heartstrings (though not Riley’s). The episode was supposedly inspired by the novel The Time-Traveler’s Wife, though the Doctor always appears in chronological order for Reinette. The clockwork droids make a reappearance in a later episode - remember which one?

Back to School
Saturday Sep 14, 2019
Saturday Sep 14, 2019
We watched another episode from Doctor Who series 2 (2006), “School Reunion,” in which the Doctor plays a high school physics teacher, Rose serves lunch, and they solve a mystery with Mickey and Sarah Jane Smith and K-9! The Doctor gets to see what happened to Sarah Jane, Rose gets to see what’s likely to happen to her in her future, and Mickey realizes that he’s the tin dog. Mickey was quite useful in this episode and got invited in the TARDIS at the end.
